Background Layer #4

Background Layer #4: T-shirts, internal company reference, upcoming talk, and iPods

This is Background Layer Issue #4, really woefully off our every-two-week schedule with aims to get back on it. As always, if you have feedback, hit reply.

Ben wrote this issue.

Shirts

Stack of XYZ Type t-shirts on astroturf, viewed through a magnifing glass, empahsizing XYZ.
High-concept photography from R.J. Hartbeck (http://www.rjhartbeck.com)

You are the first to know about this, as promised in the last Background Layer. I’m still waiting on the mailers for the shirts (shipping won’t be immediate), so it won’t hit IG until next week. Prove my reluctance to have shirts wrong!

Internal company reference

Jesse and I wrote the start of an internal company reference doc to help onboard Zrinka and get our thoughts about the company down. Recently, we took on a part-time project manager/admin assistant (say hello to Tyler Dean!), and while revisiting the document, we thought it might be good to share with this limited audience. We’d be curious to hear what you think and what blindspots we have while trusting that it isn’t something that you will broadcast widely.

Talk coming up, plus Brand New & Letrástica

We’ll start talking about this project more soon, but next month, I will be giving a talk with a client that we’ve been working with for over a year as part of Saint Louis Design Week. Maybe if you are in STL on October 8th, I’ll see you there?

If you are going to Brand New or Letrástica (organized by Zrinka!) Jesse will be there, so be sure to say hello!

Loved

I’ve sent you to Digging The Greats before, but I loved his series on changing his music listening to an iPod (you can get a USB-C to 30pin cable?! A friend called that blursed). It touches on many relevant themes, and yes, I’m resurrecting my Gen 4 iPod with a new battery and flash storage.

That’s it for this issue: shorter than usual, but getting back at it. Let me know what you’d like to hear about, what questions you have, and what music recommendations you may have.

Thank you so much for linking to that Digging The Greats series! I've been reading the book he recommends in a later episode and it's all been so affirming that I'm not going crazy; we're all starting to feel that way.
